Microsoft Clarity has taken a big step forward in making web analytics more user-friendly with the introduction of its new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server. This tool allows users to interact with Clarity’s analytics platform using natural language queries, supported by artificial intelligence (AI).
The idea is to simplify the process of retrieving and understanding website data. Rather than navigating complex dashboards or writing technical queries, users can now speak or type naturally to gain insights into how visitors interact with their websites.
The MCP Server works by creating a connection between AI tools and Microsoft Clarity’s data. It allows users—whether they are developers, digital marketers, content creators, or SEO professionals—to access and analyse data in a much more intuitive way.
With this innovation, Microsoft is aiming to remove barriers to data analysis, making it easier for people without technical expertise to extract valuable insights. This means users can now ask questions like, “How many people visited the homepage last week?” and receive a direct response.
Among the features offered through MCP are the ability to query analytics data using natural prompts, filter results by browser, operating system, country or region, and device type, as well as access important website metrics quickly and easily.
Key metrics that can be retrieved through this system include Scroll Depth, Engagement Time, and Total Traffic, all of which are vital indicators for understanding user behaviour and the performance of web pages.
The system has been built to integrate seamlessly with AI tools such as Claude for Desktop. This integration allows the AI to understand the user’s request, access the relevant analytics data from Microsoft Clarity, and present it in a clear and helpful format.
To use MCP, users need to install and run the MCP Server software on a supported environment. The server requires Node.js version 16 or higher, and it can be hosted either on a local machine or a remote server, offering flexibility depending on the user’s setup.
What makes this particularly powerful is the ability to request specific analytics insights without the need to click through multiple pages or dashboards. The natural language interface can dramatically reduce the time it takes to gather and interpret data.
Microsoft has described this launch as just the beginning. They see MCP as a foundation for more advanced AI-powered features and are actively inviting users to share their feedback, ideas, and use cases to help shape the future development of the platform.
As part of their future roadmap, Microsoft Clarity plans to introduce a number of enhancements. One of these is increased daily limits on the Clarity data export API, which would allow for more frequent and larger data extractions.
They also plan to roll out predictive heatmaps, which would use images or URLs to anticipate user engagement patterns. This could be particularly useful for testing designs or planning content placement.
Another promising update is the planned deeper AI integration, where the system could provide even richer insights—such as suggesting improvements based on user behaviour or providing automated summaries of visitor trends.
Enterprise users will also benefit from multi-project support, which is ideal for analytics teams managing multiple sites or digital products under one organisation. This will help streamline reporting and analysis across different campaigns and departments.
Lastly, Microsoft intends to broaden its ecosystem by supporting more AI agents and enabling compatibility with additional MCP servers. This indicates a push toward a more open and scalable analytics solution that works alongside other tools and platforms.
