Nine different content management and ecommerce platforms have been assessed based on their Interaction to Next Paint (INP) performance.

Interaction to Next Paint: Ranking 9 Content Management Systems

INP is a key Core Web Vitals metric as it reflects how fast a webpage reacts to user actions. Its significance has led the HTTPArchive to publish comparisons of INP scores across various CMS platforms. Below is a breakdown of how the leading systems rank for this measure.

What Is Interaction To Next Paint (INP)?

INP is used to measure how responsive a webpage is when users interact with it. It tracks the delay between an action, such as a click, tap, or keystroke, and the point when the page shows a visible response.

Unlike the older First Input Delay (FID) metric, which only looked at the very first interaction, INP gives a fuller picture. It monitors all meaningful interactions on a page and reports a value that reflects the longest delays users are likely to experience.

To keep results accurate, extreme anomalies are excluded so that the score better represents typical responsiveness. A poor INP score often leads to a frustrating browsing experience and can drive users away. By contrast, fast and smooth responses encourage users to stay longer, engage more, and are more likely to lead to conversions.

INP Scores Have Three Ratings:

  • Good: Below or at 200 milliseconds
  • Needs Improvement: Above 200 milliseconds and below or at 500 milliseconds
  • Poor: Above 500 milliseconds

Content Management System INP Champions

Recent Interaction to Next Paint (INP) figures reveal that all leading content management systems saw improvements between June and July, though the progress was only slight.

Joomla showed the strongest growth, with a 1.12% rise in the number of websites achieving a good rating. WordPress followed closely, recording a 0.88% increase in sites meeting the benchmark. Wix and Drupal also moved forward, with gains of 0.70% and 0.64% respectively.

Meanwhile, Duda and Squarespace reported smaller advances, at 0.46% and 0.22%. While these shifts may appear minor, even modest improvements can translate into a noticeably better experience for users. It’s encouraging to see that every platform included in the comparison is making progress in responsiveness.

CMS INP Ranking By Monthly Improvement

  1. Joomla: +1.12%
  2. WordPress: +0.88%
  3. Wix: +0.70%
  4. Drupal: +0.64%
  5. Duda: +0.46%
  6. Squarespace: +0.22%

Which CMS Has The Best INP Scores?

Looking at month-to-month gains shows which platforms are improving, but that doesn’t necessarily reveal which CMS performs best overall. The July INP results highlight a different picture when comparing systems by their total Interaction to Next Paint scores.

Squarespace comes out on top, with 96.07% of its sites earning a good INP rating. Duda follows at 93.81%, which marks a notable shift from the Core Web Vitals rankings where Duda usually holds the lead. For this particular Core Web Vital, which many consider the most important, Squarespace takes the crown.

In the middle of the table sit Wix and WordPress, scoring 87.52% and 86.77% respectively. Just behind them is Drupal, which posted an 86.14% score—very close to WordPress.

Joomla falls into sixth place with 84.47%. While that’s slightly lower, it’s only a couple of percentage points behind Wix and WordPress, showing that the gap between these CMS platforms is relatively small.

CMS INP Rankings for July 2025

Squarespace currently leads the pack with 96.07%, followed by Duda at 93.81%. Wix and WordPress sit in the middle with 87.52% and 86.77%, while Drupal is close behind at 86.14%. Joomla ranks lowest at 84.47%, but the results show that even platforms with weaker INP scores are moving in the right direction. If Joomla continues to progress at this pace, it may eventually close the gap with its competitors.

On the other hand, Squarespace, which already performs strongly, recorded the smallest improvement during this period. This suggests that gains are uneven across platforms, with each system advancing at a different rate. Still, the latest Interaction to Next Paint (INP) figures confirm that all six content management systems in this comparison saw progress from June to July. Overall, the steady upward trend is encouraging for publishers.

What About Shopify’s INP Performance?

Shopify is often praised for its strong Core Web Vitals, but how does it perform when compared to other leading content management systems? At first glance, it may appear to be an unfair match-up since ecommerce platforms usually involve more images, videos, and features that can slow down a website. However, since Duda, Squarespace, and Wix also provide ecommerce functionality, the comparison is both fair and relevant.

When Shopify is added into the Interaction to Next Paint (INP) rankings, the order shifts slightly:

Shopify in the Mix

  • Squarespace: 96.07%

  • Duda: 93.81%

  • Shopify: 89.58%

  • Wix: 87.52%

  • WordPress: 86.77%

  • Drupal: 86.14%

  • Joomla: 84.47%

This places Shopify in third position overall, ahead of some major CMS platforms. Looking more closely at the ecommerce platforms only, the results are as follows:

Top Ecommerce Platforms by INP

  • BigCommerce: 95.29%

  • Shopify: 89.58%

  • WooCommerce: 87.99%

Here, BigCommerce clearly comes out on top, outperforming both Shopify and WooCommerce in terms of responsiveness.

Finally, when combining CMS and ecommerce platforms in one ranking, the comparison produces some interesting outcomes:

CMS and Ecommerce Platforms Combined

  • Squarespace: 96.07%

  • BigCommerce: 95.29%

  • Duda: 93.81%

  • Shopify: 89.58%

  • WooCommerce: 87.99%

  • Wix: 87.52%

  • WordPress: 86.77%

  • Drupal: 86.14%

  • Joomla: 84.47%

What stands out here is that all three ecommerce platforms manage to rank within the top five, despite the heavy demands typically associated with online shops. WooCommerce, which runs on WordPress, sits in fifth place. However, its score is so close to Wix that the two are almost tied.
