Google’s Gemini has introduced new features, including the ability to personalise responses based on previous conversations and the option for Temporary Chats. These updates are currently rolling out, with user controls available to manage them.

Key points:

  • Personalisation from past conversations is now available on Gemini 2.5 Pro.

  • This feature will expand to additional models in the coming weeks.

  • Temporary Chats won’t store history or be used to train the models.

Google is introducing updates to its Gemini app, allowing responses to be tailored based on previous conversations and adding new privacy options, such as a Temporary Chat mode.

These enhancements begin rolling out today and will reach more users over the next few weeks.

What’s New

Personalisation from Previous Conversations
Gemini can now refer back to earlier chats to remember key details and user preferences, creating replies that feel more like working with someone who already understands the context.

This enhancement follows Google’s I/O vision of developing an assistant that learns and adapts to each individual user. By default, the feature is switched on but can be disabled by going to Settings → Personal context → Your past chats with Gemini.

Temporary Chats for Privacy
Google is also introducing a Temporary Chat option for times when you want a quick exchange without affecting future responses.

According to Google, these chats won’t appear in your recent conversations, won’t be used for personalisation or training, and will be stored for a maximum of 72 hours. This ensures privacy while still allowing short-term access to the conversation if needed.

Improved Privacy Settings
In the coming weeks, Google will update the name of the Gemini Apps Activity setting to Keep Activity.

When activated, this option allows a sample of future uploads—such as files or photos—to be used to improve Google’s services. If your current Gemini Apps Activity setting is off, the new Keep Activity setting will remain off. You can turn it off at any time or opt to use Temporary Chats instead.

The rollout for these updates starts today and will reach all users over the next few weeks.
