The Coywolf Pack is a new plugin suite designed to expand EmDash’s publishing, website management, SEO and performance capabilities. Developed by SEO specialist Jon Henshaw, the modular package introduces tools intended to simplify website administration, improve search engine discovery and deliver faster page loads without adding unnecessary complexity.
The plugin allows website owners to activate only the features they need, making it a flexible option for publishers looking to improve their sites. In testing reported by Search Engine Journal, pages using the plugin achieved perfect scores of 100 in Google PageSpeed Insights, including the homepage, category pages and pages containing videos.
An Experienced SEO Developer Behind the Plugin
Coywolf Pack was created by Jon Henshaw, an SEO professional with more than 30 years of industry experience. He currently works as Director of Audience Management at Yahoo and has previously held SEO leadership roles at CNET and Vimeo. He has also overseen global SEO for Paramount+, Pluto TV and Showtime.
Henshaw developed the Raven Tools SEO platform, which was acquired in 2017. His experience in search optimisation and software development informs the plugin’s focus on improving how websites are managed, discovered and delivered to visitors.
The package introduces improvements across three main areas: publishing and site management, SEO, and website performance.
New Tools for Publishing and Website Management
Coywolf Pack adds several practical features to EmDash, including website backup and recovery, secure storage for files submitted through website forms, downloadable files with usage tracking and additional content blocks.
Its video tools extend EmDash’s existing capabilities through Cloudflare Stream hosting and management. Website owners can also track video engagement, add captions and generate VideoObject structured data automatically for videos managed through the integration. A video XML sitemap is included to help search engines discover video content.
Additional content blocks support disclosures, quotations, testimonials, podcast links and highlighted information. These features are designed to give publishers more control over how their content is presented without compromising website performance.
SEO Features Support Search Engine Discovery
The plugin also expands EmDash’s built-in SEO tools, offering greater control over crawling, structured data, metadata, links and redirects. Its Discovery module includes several features designed to make published content easier to find and process.
These include a Google News sitemap to help search engines discover recent news articles, alongside IndexNow notifications for participating search engines when content is published, updated or removed.
Coywolf Pack also provides an llms.txt file and Markdown versions of articles. These features are intended to make selected website content easier for AI systems to identify and process, although their presence does not guarantee inclusion in AI-generated answers or improved search rankings.
Together, these additions give publishers more options for managing how their content is presented to search engines and other content discovery systems.
Improved WordPress Migration
Moving an established website from WordPress to EmDash can involve more than transferring articles and images. Existing URLs, redirects, content hierarchies and author information may all need to be preserved to avoid disrupting the site’s structure and search visibility.
Although EmDash already includes a WordPress importer, Coywolf Pack extends its functionality to address several potential migration issues.
The plugin can preserve heading IDs, allowing existing links to specific sections of articles to continue working. It also imports redirect rules from popular WordPress plugins, including Yoast, Rank Math and Redirection, and helps direct older media URLs to their corresponding imported files.
Another improvement is the preservation of parent-child relationships between categories and pages. For example, a nested structure such as News, Local and Article can retain its hierarchy instead of being flattened during migration. Maintaining these relationships can help preserve established URL paths and reduce the risk of unnecessary disruption.
Coywolf Pack also supports the migration of multiple author credits and guest-author profiles from plugins such as Co-Authors Plus, PublishPress Authors and Coywolf Guest Author. Selected WordPress blocks, including reusable blocks, quotations and expandable Details blocks, can also be transferred while retaining their intended functionality.
These features could be particularly useful for publishers managing larger websites with established content structures and complex migration requirements.
Eight Improvements Designed to Make Websites Faster
Performance is one of the plugin’s main selling points. Coywolf Pack introduces eight enhancements covering caching, image delivery, internal search, redirects, database efficiency and server-side rendering.
1. Faster Page Delivery
The plugin keeps pages cached and automatically clears outdated content when deployments or relevant settings changes occur. According to Coywolf, cached responses can be delivered in approximately 60 to 90 milliseconds, compared with one to two seconds without the same optimisation.
2. More Efficient Cache Management
Instead of clearing the entire website’s cache whenever a change occurs, the plugin can invalidate the affected content. This helps preserve existing cached pages and reduces unnecessary performance interruptions.
3. Automatic Cache Warming
When content changes or the cache is cleared, Coywolf Pack can prepare pages in advance. This process, known as cache warming, means visitors and search engine crawlers are less likely to encounter slower pages while the cache is being rebuilt.
4. Optimised Image Delivery
Images are delivered through Cloudflare’s media infrastructure, with responsive sizing and long-term caching. The plugin also specifies image dimensions in the HTML to help prevent unexpected layout shifts and improve Cumulative Layout Shift, one of Google’s Core Web Vitals metrics.
5. Faster Internal Search
The plugin improves website search by using a browser-based index of page titles, cached results and fewer database queries. This allows visitors to receive search suggestions more quickly without placing as much demand on the database.
6. Quicker Redirect Processing
Redirects are handled before EmDash renders a page, with responses cached to reduce processing requirements. This can make URL redirection more efficient for both visitors and the website itself.
7. Reduced Database Processing
Coywolf Pack combines database queries where possible, caches settings and reuses information already retrieved. These changes reduce the number of separate database interactions required to generate pages that are not already cached.
The article notes that individual database round trips can take around 25 to 30 milliseconds, meaning fewer interactions can help reduce delays when pages are generated.
8. Less JavaScript in the Browser
Certain elements, including tables of contents, breadcrumbs, reviews and structured data, are rendered on the server rather than relying on additional browser-side JavaScript. This reduces the work required from visitors’ devices and can help pages load more efficiently.
Performance Results Show Promising Potential
In its review, Search Engine Journal tested the plugin on a homepage and several internal pages, including a video category page and a page containing a video. Each achieved a PageSpeed Insights score of 100.
These results suggest that the additional functionality can be delivered without necessarily sacrificing speed. However, performance scores can vary depending on hosting, configuration, content and other website components, so individual results may differ.
The plugin’s modular design also allows website owners to select specific tools instead of enabling the entire package, giving them greater control over which features are added to their sites.
What Coywolf Pack Means for EmDash Users
Coywolf Pack expands EmDash with a broader range of publishing, migration, SEO and performance tools. Its features are aimed at helping website owners manage content more effectively, retain important site structures during WordPress migrations and improve the experience for visitors and search engines.
The reported PageSpeed Insights results are particularly notable, while the migration tools may offer practical benefits for publishers moving established WordPress websites to EmDash.
For site owners considering the plugin, the most useful approach is to identify which features address their current needs and test performance in their own environment before making wider changes.
