Alphabet has reported continued growth for Google Search revenue, although the pace of expansion has slowed for the first time following four consecutive quarters of acceleration.
For Q2 2026, Google Search and Other revenue reached $63.27 billion, representing a 17% increase compared with the same period last year. However, this was down from the 19% year-on-year growth recorded in Q1 2026, marking the first slowdown after a period of consistently rising growth rates.
Alphabet’s overall revenue climbed to $119.8 billion, a 24% increase year-on-year, while operating income rose by 30% and the company’s operating margin reached 34%. Google also revealed continued growth for its Gemini AI platform, with the app reaching 950 million monthly active users, up from more than 750 million at the end of 2025.
Search Growth Remains Strong Despite Slowdown
Google Search revenue had experienced a steady acceleration throughout the previous year. Growth increased from 10% in Q1 2025 to 12% in Q2, before rising to 15% in Q3, 17% in Q4, and reaching 19% in Q1 2026.
Although Q2’s 17% growth represents a slight decline from the previous quarter, Search revenue still increased significantly compared with the same period last year, rising from $54.2 billion to $63.3 billion.
The slowdown does not indicate falling revenue, but rather that the rapid acceleration seen over the past year has started to level off.
Retail and AI Integration Drive Revenue
Google credited several areas for supporting Search growth during the quarter, with retail continuing to be one of the strongest performing sectors.
Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler said growth was driven by strong results across key industries, including retail, finance, technology, media, and entertainment.
The company also highlighted the growing role of Gemini AI integration across its advertising products. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said AI-powered features are helping increase Search activity by encouraging users to interact more with the platform.
Google did not reveal how much revenue each sector contributed individually, but it continues to position AI improvements as a major factor behind Search’s ongoing performance.
AI Max Helps Advertisers Reach More Searches
Google also discussed AI Max, its AI-powered targeting and creative solution for Search campaigns.
The company said AI Max is helping advertisers reach search queries that were previously difficult to monetise by improving targeting and expanding campaign opportunities. However, Google did not provide specific figures showing how much AI Max contributed to revenue growth during the quarter.
The announcement continues Google’s wider push to integrate artificial intelligence throughout its advertising ecosystem, following earlier tests of AI-powered advertising formats within AI Mode.
What This Means For Search
While Google’s Search revenue continues to grow, the latest results show that the rapid acceleration seen over the past year may be slowing.
It is important to note that Google’s Search revenue figures reflect the company’s advertising business and do not directly represent website traffic or organic search performance. A strong revenue quarter for Google does not necessarily mean websites are receiving more visitors.
Website owners should continue monitoring their own performance through tools such as Google Search Console and analytics platforms to understand changes in visibility, clicks, and user behaviour.
Google has also introduced new reporting features for AI Overviews and AI Mode visibility within Search Console, although these currently focus on impressions rather than clicks or click-through rates.
Looking Ahead
The main question now is whether Q2’s slowdown is simply a temporary adjustment or the beginning of a longer period of slower Search revenue growth.
Google continues to invest heavily in AI features and advertising improvements, with Gemini and AI-powered search tools expected to play a larger role in the company’s future strategy. The coming quarters will reveal whether these investments can maintain the strong growth momentum seen over the past year.
