Google Ads is introducing a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to automatically add voice narration to certain video advertisements. The update is designed to improve the viewing experience for Performance Max video ads by incorporating AI-generated voice-overs that sound more natural and engaging.

This new capability forms part of Google’s ongoing efforts to optimise ad assets automatically. By using advanced AI voice models, the platform can enhance video ads without requiring advertisers to create new content or record voice tracks themselves.

Automatic Voice-Over Enhancements

Under this update, Google will begin enrolling advertisers into a programme that adds AI narration to their existing video ads. Unless advertisers decide to opt out, the system will automatically generate a voice-over for eligible ads.

The feature will primarily apply to videos that currently do not include any spoken audio. For these ads, Google’s system will analyse the advertiser’s existing campaign text, including headlines and descriptions, and use that content to create a voice script.

The AI then converts this text into a realistic voice recording, which is layered onto the original video. Once generated, the updated version is saved as a new video asset within the campaign.

Designed to Improve Engagement

The main goal of this feature is to help improve how video ads perform by making them more engaging for viewers. Voice narration can make video content easier to follow and may help communicate a brand’s message more clearly.

Because the process is automated, advertisers can benefit from enhanced video assets without needing to invest in additional creative production work.

Opt-Out System for Advertisers

One important aspect of the rollout is that the feature operates on an opt-out basis rather than requiring advertisers to opt in.

This means that advertisers will automatically become eligible for AI voice-over enhancements unless they actively disable the feature. If advertisers prefer not to use the AI-generated narration, they must opt out before 20 March.

To do this, advertisers need to disable the video enhancement control within their Google Ads campaign settings.

After the deadline, any campaigns that still have video enhancement enabled may automatically receive AI-generated voice-over versions of their video ads.

What Advertisers Should Do

Advertisers who want to manage or disable the feature should review their video ad settings within the Google Ads platform. Adjustments can be made by navigating to the relevant ad assets and updating the video enhancement options.

Reviewing these settings before the deadline ensures that advertisers maintain control over how their video ads appear and sound to audiences.

First Reports of the Feature

The update was initially highlighted by paid search specialist Arpan Banerjee, who shared details of the new feature on LinkedIn. His post brought attention to the upcoming change and prompted discussion among digital advertising professionals.

A Step Towards More Automated Advertising

This new voice-over capability reflects Google’s broader push towards automation within advertising. Performance Max campaigns already rely heavily on machine learning to optimise placements and creative assets, and the addition of AI narration further extends these capabilities.

For advertisers, the feature could offer a simple way to improve video ads without additional effort. However, because it changes how ads are presented to viewers, reviewing campaign settings before the rollout deadline may be a sensible step.

As Google continues to expand AI-driven features within its advertising tools, marketers will likely see more automated enhancements designed to improve ad performance and streamline campaign management.
