Brave has introduced Ask Brave, a new search interface that blends AI-generated responses with standard search results such as links, videos, and products.

This feature expands on Brave’s earlier AI Answers tool, offering users a more interactive and informative experience. According to the company, Brave Search is now processing more than 1.5 billion queries each month, highlighting its growing presence in the search market.

What’s ‘Ask Brave?’

Ask Brave builds upon Brave’s existing AI Answers tool, which the company says already generates more than 15 million responses each day.

The feature has evolved considerably since its first launch in 2023 as Summariser, later rebranded as Answer with AI, before settling on the name AI Answers.

Josep M. Pujol, Brave’s Chief of Search, explained that while AI Answers is designed to provide quick summaries, Ask Brave goes further by offering extended responses, the option to continue conversations, and a chat function powered by Deep Research. Crucially, it also incorporates richer context, bringing in videos, news stories, shopping results, local businesses, and more – all presented in one seamless interface. According to Pujol, this combination of search and AI chat “glues it together” and is expected to deliver millions more AI-driven answers each day.

Brave is pitching Ask Brave as a way to eliminate a frequent pain point for users – the need to jump between standard search engines and separate AI chat platforms. Instead, everything is available from a single search entry point.

Grounded In Search

Brave’s new Ask Brave tool, powered by its Search API and grounding tech, achieved 94.9% accuracy on SimpleQA. Drawing from over 35 billion webpages, it aims to cut down on hallucinations, while Deep Research mode scans thousands of pages to fill knowledge gaps.

Privacy

Brave confirms Ask Brave upholds its privacy-first policy, with encrypted chats that auto-delete after 24 hours, no IP tracking, and no use of conversations for training.

How To Use It

Users can access Ask Brave in a number of ways. By typing double question marks (“??”) into their queries when using Brave Search as the default engine, they can trigger the feature instantly. It’s also available by clicking the “Ask” button on search.brave.com, or by selecting the “Ask” tab on results pages to switch from standard listings to chat mode. Alternatively, users can make the Ask Brave interface their homepage for direct access.

Broader Context

Brave states that its search platform is now the third-largest independent search engine worldwide, processing roughly 1.5 billion queries each month. The company also reports that its browser attracts over 97 million monthly active users globally.

The introduction of Ask Brave comes at a time when leading search providers are increasingly embedding AI into their services. Google has introduced an AI Mode within Search, while Microsoft has integrated Copilot across Bing and Edge. Alongside this, Brave provides a Search API that delivers real-time information to AI language models.
